Result: 05.09.2010 – Men’s AA/A Sand Series…Texted received at 2:42 AM??

Today’s action was just filled with excitement as we started the cool brisk day with 10 teams registered thanks to a very very late entry received at 2:42 in the morning. The 10th and final registered team had very little sleep but was in their prime once the games began…thanks Dirty (pictured above) and Courtney C. (yes, the woman came to play) for playing today.

After pool play, the following teams were ranked for playoffs:

1st – Ryan H./Patrick D.
2nd – Howard M./Donald M.
3rd – Joe W./Tracey P.
4th – David M./Dustin S.
5th – Hal M./Johnathan K.
6th – Bobby M./Junior M.
7th – Rich R./Courtney C.
8th – David O./Tim C.
9th – Jeremy S./Neil H.
10th – Rene M./Tony G.

In the semis, #1 – Ryan H./Pat D. played against #5 – Hal M./Johnathan K. with Ryan / Pat coming through 25-16. In the other semis, #2 – Howard M./Donald M. played against #3 – Joe W./Tracey P. with Howard / Donald battling to earn their birth in the finals 25-22.

The finals went back and forth with the #1 and #2 seeds. Howard and Donald have played many times before and have been very successful with their partnership. Ryan and Patrick made a powerful team with their combination of skill and teamwork on the court. In the beginning, both teams knew their strategy for the finals. About 80-90% of the services went to Ryan and Donald. Ryan / Patrick trailed in the middle of the game by 4 points but never gave up. But in the end, it was Donald’s crafty back-spin jump floater that seemed to cause Ryan / Patrick some problems. If you have never seen Donald’s back-spin jump floater, it is one of the most challenging serves to receive…just ask Ryan. Congratulations to Howard M. and Donald M. for their successful win…
