The second tournament of the series continues with some tough competition and also lots of new players/teams. Once again, the tournament consisted of 10 tough teams at the Virginia Highlands. This tournament was different from the past tournament: all matches were one game to 25 points with no cap (instead of two games to 21 points, no cap) and then all teams were then ranked based off of their record and point differential in case of a tie.
The result for July 25th’s Men’s Sand Series (after pool play) were:
• (#1) Johnathan Kendrick / Ralph Jones
• (#2) Kyle Peters / Mike Lawley
• (#3) Kendall Reardon / Rich Rainwater
• (#4) Bobby Mitchell, Sr. / Bobby Mitchell, Jr.
• (#5) Rich O’Keefe / Dennis Jocson
• (#6) Wynn Vinson / Jeremy Swanson
• (#7) Tim Carlson / Donald Miller
• (#8) Nick Liley / Nick Drummond
• (#9) Ryan Kincer / Raun Bassett
• (#10) Ray Colon / Mike James
Qualifier Round Results:
(#7) Tim Carlson / Donald Miller defeated (#10) Ray Colon / Mike James: 25-16
(#8) Nick Liley / Nick Drummond lost to (#9) Ryan Kincer / Raun Bassett: 25-22
Quarterfinal Results:
There was only one upset in the quarterfinals. The Mitchells were back for their second showing. Junior was tested during the quarterfinals by the #5 seed of Rich O’Keefe and Dennis Jocson. The last time Rich and Dennis partnered up to play was probably back in 2003 at the Manhattan Beach AVP Qualifier. My oh my has time flied.

Semifinal Results:
Another upset was in the works as the top teams struggle to take control of their games.
(#1) Johnathan Kendrick / Ralph Jones lost to (#5) Rich O’Keefe / Dennis Jocson: 18-25
(#2) Kyle Peters / Mike Lawley lost to (#3) Kendall Reardon / Rich Rainwater: 18-25
Final Results:
This is the first time that ‘Dirty’ Rich Rainwater (the Veteran) and Kendall Reardon (the Rookie) played together in the tournament. For Rich O’Keefe and Dennis Jocson – long time no see in the finals. This game was very competitive and intense down to the end. The game went point for point with no indication of who would take this tournament until the end. The last point of the match Rich / Dennis were serving for the match at 24-23. ‘Dirty’ Rich received serve and shot the ball over Big Rich which landed just a bit long. Big Rich asked me later that afternoon if I knew that ball was out…my response, “I had no idea.”
Congratulations to Rich O’Keefe and Dennis Jocson for winning the second tournament of the series!! It wasn’t Manhattan Beach but we will take it…
