Bigger and Better than Before – Results of the Coed Sand Tournament

AirVorne Volleyball hosted its second Coed Sand Tournament of the year at the Virginia Highlands as well as Piedmont Park. We started the day off with 15 teams and the pools were set using 3 courts.

Pool play consisted of 4 games for all teams (one game to 21 points, no cap). After pool play was complete for all 3 courts, all teams were ranked by their W/L record and then Point Differential Points for all ties:

First Round Results:
In the first round, the domination of those played at Piedmont Park began as we saw #4 seed of David Douglass / Becky Partee and #7 seed of Mike Cabeza / Ginger Raymond lost their first game.

Quarterfinal Results:
In the second round, the Piedmont Park domination continued as the #1 seed of Duane Holben / Elaine Sha and #2 seed of Brandon Addison / Nicole Nilson lost in their respective games.

(#2) Brandon Addison / Nicole Nilson lost to (#10) Kyle Peck / Stephanie Canfield: 19-21
(#3) Jeremy Swanson / Jaime Butlet-Dawson defeated (#6) Howard Miles / Sarah Eveleth: 21-10
(#5) Rich Rainwater / Wendy Saltzman defeated (#13) Jon Beck / Alison Jaynes: 21-19

Semifinal Results:
The semifinals brought back two teams that played against each other in the quarterfinals of the first Coed Sand Tournament on June 26th: (#5) Rich Rainwater / Wendy Saltzman and (#8) Rich O’Keefe / Terrie O’Keefe. Once again, (#8) Rich O’Keefe / Terrie O’Keefe defeated (#5) Rich Rainwater / Wendy Saltzman: 21-15.

The other semifinal brought back the teams from Piedmont Park against each other: (#3) Jeremy Swanson / Jaime Butlet-Dawson and (#10) Kyle Peck / Stephanie Canfield. During pool play, Jeremy / Jaime defeated Kyle / Stephanie: 21-13. Unfortunately, the result was not the same during the semifinals as (#10) Kyle Peck / Stephanie Canfield defeated (#3) Jeremy Swanson / Jaime Butlet-Dawson: 21-18.

Final Results:
The finals brought the two biggest guys and former partners together with their partners: (#8) Rich O’Keefe / Terrie O’Keefe and (#10) Kyle Peck / Stephanie Canfield from Panama City, Florida. This match went back and forth till the end. The crowd was all cheering for the hometown heroes (Rich/Terrie) to win the tournament. At 20 serving 19, Rich / Terrie receive serve and with a surprising move Terrie back sets the ball over on two surprising Stephanie…Stephanie picks it up and the rally continues…eventually, Rich / Terrie sideout for point tying the game at 20-20. The next point was then earned by Rich / Terrie and it was Match Point at 21-20 with Terrie serving for the match. Terrie was serving like a mad woman but unfortunately at this point she served it out tying the game at 21-21. Kyle / Stephanie earned the next point giving them Match Point at 22-21 with Stephanie serving for the Match. Terrie receives serve and could not convert the point giving Kyle / Stephanie the win at 23-21.

Congratulations to Kyle Peck / Stephanie Canfield of Panama City, Florida for winning the second Coed Sand Tournament of the season!!!
