AirVorne Volleyball – King of the Sand Tournament at Piedmont Park

So who reigned supreme in AirVorne’s first tournament at Piedmont Park? This past Sunday, we had 14 male players who hauled their coolers/tents to the sand courts to play some ball. This tournament was catered to the Men’s AA to A level players. Pool play consisted of 8 games throughout most of the day.

Here are the results of the pool play for June 7th’s – King of the Sand Tournament (in order from top to bottom):

The top seeded team Kendrick/Hojnacki received a bye during the first round of playoffs. (2)Mobley/Miles played against (7)Trosterud/Pearson winning 21-17. (3)Carlson/Kreiner, also known as “TnT” that day, played against (6)DiNunno/Dunaway winning 21-16. Both of the winning teams advanced to the Semi-Final. In the other match, (4)Towns/Pressley played against (5)Allemand/Reardon winning 21-17 to advance them into the other Semi-Final.

(2)Mobley/Miles fought a hard grueling match against (3)Carlson/Kreiner winning 21-19. (1)Kendrick/Hojnacki took advantage of their bye and cruised into the finals over (5)Allemand/Reardon 21-10.

So the finals were set and ready for a long match for a couple of them (Hojnacki/Mobley). The King format finals is designed so that everyone plays with/against each other…equates to 3 games till we have a winner.

In the first match, Kendrick/Hojnacki played against Mobley/Miles. This match was fought till the very end and unfortunately, Hojnacki began to cramp towards the end of the match. Coors Light, please. If he was only drinking Bud Light Lime, he probably wouldn’t have cramped during that match. Mobley/Miles came back to win in the end over Kendrick/Hojnacki 23-21.

Johnathan Kendrick -2

In the second match, Hojnacki/Mobley played against Kendrick/Miles. Looks like the cramping from Hojnacki went to his partner Mobley during this match. Unfortunately, Mobley gave his last bit of pickle juice to Hojnacki earlier that day. Oops. Hojnacki/Mobley struggled through this match but eventually lost to Kendrick/Miles 21-16.

After two matches:
Howard Miles +7
Johnathan Kendrick +3
Hal Mobley -3
Ryan Hojnacki -7

In the third and final match, Hojnacki/Miles played against Kendrick/Mobley. Kendrick needed to win by 5 points but the cramping continued for Mobley which probably cost them both. Hojnacki/Miles found victory at the end over Kendrick/Mobley 21-18.

Results of the Tournament:
Congratulations to Howard Miles (+10 points) for winning the King of the Sand Tournament!!
Johnathan Kendrick (0 points) came in 2nd.
Ryan Hojnacki (-4 points) pulled through in 3rd.
Hal Mobley (-6 points) finished in 4th.
