Point System for AirVorne Volleyball’s 2009 Season…trial by fire

In the spring/summer of 2009, I plan to introduce a point system for all of the players that participate in the AirVorne volleyball tournaments. Whether it is a King/Queen format, Men’s/Women’s Doubles format, or a Coed/Reverse Coed, points can be accured throughout the season.

So here is how this will work:
In every tournament format (King/Queen, Doubles, Coed), all games will be played to 25 points win by 2 points with a cap of 30 points in rally scoring (Tournament Director has the right to change the cap at any point due to time or any other circumstance). All playoff games will be determined by the tournament director as far as the format (single elimination OR DOUBLE elimination advances). For each point you earn in all the tournaments you play translates to points for your overall season score. As you move up in the play-offs of the tournament, you earn more points.

For example (Doubles Format), Team A wins every game in pool play (8 games to 25 points – capped at 25 points)…Team A just earned 200 points (8 games * 25 points). Play-offs consist of Quarter-Finals, Semis, and Finals with 2 out of 3 games. Team A go undefeated earning (6 games to 25 points – capped at 25 points = 150 points). Together Team A has earned 350 points in the entire tournament which will be divided equally between the players (175 points).

The only points you do not literally earn are those points that are added per the division you play in. The divisions that will be offered are: Open, AA, A, BB/B. This portion of the point system is still being determined. Also, for those teams/individuals that do win their division twice will be asked to move up in order to avoid “sandbaggers”.

So as you can see, every point scored in your performance during the season is a point for your individual score.

The key for this point system to work is consistency and accuracy which will come from me keeping good records for all tournaments. During the tournament, I will be looking for individuals to help in gathering accurate scores and in return you will receive your tournament fee back…guaranteed.

   Just bored and looking over this, and just had a thought. With your current 10 team format with a “play-in bracket” for the finals, are you giving points to the winners of the play-in games because that would esentially be awarding people for finishing in the bottom of their pool?
